New to hiring ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø students?

  Student Employment & Career Services support employers looking to hire ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø student employees. Students apply for jobs directly and you'll get an email when applications are ready to review. 

  You’ll fit into one of the following categories when you hire ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø students. Follow the instructions that fit your situation below to create an employer account and post your student jobs on Handshake.

On-campus

  Hire: Hire students to work on-campus as work-study or hourly employees. Note: not all student employees are eligible to work on campus. Learn more about hiring an on-campus student

  Pay: University funds. 

  Work-study: Need-based financial aid program that allows students to work & use their earnings toward their educational expenses. Students must apply for financial aid to determine eligibility.

Create an employer account

To create an on-campus employer account, email the following to studentemployment@colorado.edu:

  • Dept. name 
  • Brief dept. description (include location on campus)
  • Link to your website 
  • Email(s) for staff/faculty accessing Handshake

 

Off-campus

  Hire: Businesses not affiliated with ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø typically post hourly student jobs.

Positions requiring students to work for an individual or in someone else's home are not allowed on Handshake under the personal residence employer policy

  Pay: Your payment methods with your own funding.

Off-campus employers can jump right into Handshake and make an employer account. 

Off-campus work-study

  Hire: Some local public agencies are eligible to pay student employees with work-study funds through a contract with ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø.

Eligible agencies:

  • City or county government offices
  • Public schools
  • Community-owned hospitals
  • Public libraries
  • Community centers
  • Nonprofit organizations

  Pay: University funds— Student Employment will provide training on the payroll system if your agency is granted a work-study contract.

Resources

Only current degree-seeking ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø students qualify for student jobs either on the main campus or through continuing education. Student Employment reviews and monitors the eligibility of all employees currently active in student job classes on HCM, the university's HR and payroll system.

Requirements

Academic year (fall and spring semesters):

  • Undergraduates: Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester to receive work-study
  • Graduates: Must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to receive work-study

Summer

  • Must be enrolled in the previous spring semester and upcoming fall semester.

International Students

Students attending other CU Campuses

  • Eligible for hire at ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø if enrolled in the correct amount of credit hours specified above
