Maximize Your Advising Session
Members of SSAS are here to assist you with a vairety of topics crucial to your success as a student at ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø, like understanding your curriculum, selecting and changing majors, semester and long-term course planning, strategies to be academically successful, college policies and procedures, setting goals for future learning, and finding academic support and career resources. SSAS staff are also available to discuss non-academic issues and may refer you to other university student support services for learning services, financial assistance, or personal counseling.
Here are some tips to help you make your advising session productive:
Be early and thoughtful
- ​In order to best utilize your time with your advisor, be sure to arrive early for your appointment. If you need to cancel the appointment, do so in a timely manner via Buff Portal Advising.
- Avoid the rush and set up your appointment with your Academic Advisor well before your scheduled date to register.
- Review the Academic Calendar to know important semester dates.
Be prepared
- Come prepared with goals for what you would like to get out of the meeting
- Bring a list of questions you would like to discuss
- Review your program requirements and prerequisite courses
- Run and review your degree audit
- Review any transfer work on your degree audit and write down questions regarding any work you would like to talk about with your advisor
- Create a folder to keep related paperwork or notes in one place
