Student Assistant Positions

 

Undergraduate Student Assistant

The Biochemistry Department is looking for an undergraduate Student Assistant I to work up to 20 hours/week.

Student assistant duties include but are not limited to:

Events - Assist with events - commencement, recruitment, and seminars. Assist with set-up/clean-up, and catering. Candidates must be able to lift and set-up tables, poster stands and put materials away. Student will need to be available especially on Wednesdays from 3:15 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.

Technical Experience - Experience with Audio/Visual equipment and can troubleshoot technical issues in the Butcher Auditorium for our seminar speakers; Microsoft Teams Planner Card or similar project management software; ability to address and propose scheduling solutions, and experience with Doodle Poll or creating surveys in Survey Monkey or similar software; advanced computer skills, especially excel, PowerPoint, and works collaboratively to propose technical solutions.

Qualified candidates will have excellent communications skills, strong independent work ethic, detail oriented, excellent follow through, meets deadlines, and willing to help in a variety of situations.

Start date January 21, 2025. Appointment expected to continue through academic year.

The Cech Lab is looking for an undergraduate student assistant I-semi-skilled to work 10-12 hours per week.

Lab duties include: Dishwasher for Biochemistry Lab

A dishwasher is needed to clean and decontaminate laboratory glassware and production equipment following specific methods of processing both manually and by using an automated dishwasher and dryer; and distributing these items to laboratory storage locations.

Key requirements are reliability, ability to work with little supervision, familiarity with a lab environment, and able to pass safety trainings.

The Taatjes Lab in the Biochemistry department at ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø seeks to hire an undergraduate Student Assistant I-semi-skilled, to work 6-10 hours/week.  Responsibilities will include preparation of media, growing and harvesting HeLa cells using sterile cell culture techniques. Training will be provided to the successful candidate. If the job responsibilities are adequately met, the candidate will have the option to work on a research project in the lab.

Minimum requirements: enrollment at ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø, majoring in biochemistry, MCDB, or related field.

Start date: Fall semester 2024, expected to continue for the adacemic year. Hourly pay of $20.00.

Undergraduate Student Tutor

The Biochemistry Department seeks to hire undergraduate Biochemistry majors to provide tutoring. The Biochemistry department is working to offer one-on-one tutoring provided to Biochemistry majors (up to 1 hour a week) for the Chemistry courses listed below:                                                       

                CHEM 1021 Introductory Chemistry

                CHEM 1113/1114 General Chemistry 1 and lab

                CHEM 1400/1401 Foundations of Chemistry and lab

Responsibilities will include to provide in-person, one-on-one sessions, help student improve their knowledge of the course material, provide a comfortable and supportive learning environment, maintain consistent communication with the student, and maintain consistent communication with the Undergraduate Program Coordinator.

Qualifications: Minimum of 3.0 GPA, Minimum of a B+ in the tutoring course. Full time ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø student who is at least a sophomore, passionate about course content and has the desire to share with other students, desire to teach/share study skills for students’ own success. Work with limited supervision.

Start Date: Fall 2024, expected to continue for the academic year. Hourly pay of $20.00.
