Games of Thrones Language Creator David. J. Peterson speaks at CU February 18

On Tuesday, February 18, at 6pm, CU linguists assembledÌýin the CASE auditorium for a talk byÌýGame of Thrones Language CreatorÌýDavid J. Peterson. In addition to creating the Dothraki and High Valyrian languages forÌýHBO’s medieval fantasy epic Game of Thrones, he has created languages forÌýSyfy’sÌýDefiance, Netflix’sÌýBright, the CW’sÌýThe 100, Showtime’sÌýPenny Dreadful, Netflix’sÌýThe Witcher, Marvel’sÌýThor: The Dark World, and others. He is also the author ofÌýLiving Language DothrakiÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýThe Art of Language Invention. What some may not know is that David hasÌýa strong background in academic linguistics, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Linguistics from UC Berkeley in 2003, and a Master’s degree in Linguistics from UC San Diego in 2005, receiving UCSD'sÌý. He’s also been creating languages since 2000. He served as a cofounder and original board member of theÌý, and served as its president from 2011 to 2014.ÌýHis humor, insights and remarkablyÌýtales of working with show business talent have enraptured audiences around the country. David's talk,Ìýjointly sponsored by the CU Linguistics UndergradÌýClub and CU Linguistics, will take place in CU's beautiful new CASE building.
