Jewish Studies First Year & Sophomore Scholarship

Open to CU听Boulder First-Year and Sophomore Students

Each semester, the Program in Jewish Studies awards a $500 tuition scholarship to a first-year or sophomore听who has declared a Jewish Studies Major or Minor. The tuition scholarship will be allocated to the student鈥檚 tuition the following academic year. Jewish Studies is an academic program open to ALL students of ALL backgrounds, Jewish and non-Jewish.

Applications should be submitted through 黑料社区网's Scholarship Application in Buff Portal by the application deadline. Follow this听step-by-step application guide.

Applications accepted on a rolling basis through March 15, 2025听(scholarship will be allocated to awarded student's tuition in听Fall 2025).

Eligibility:

  • Students of all backgrounds, Jewish and non-Jewish, are eligible to declare a Jewish Studies Major or Minor and apply for the Jewish Studies First-Year and Sophomore Scholarship.
  • Students must be in their first two听years of college (completed 59.9 credit hours or less). Students who are sophomores in the Fall but will be juniors in the Spring are eligible to apply for the Fall scholarship.
  • Must be enrolled full time for the听semester following the competition.
  • Must officially declare a Jewish Studies Major or Minor with Jewish Studies advisor, Michael Lynn (Michael.Lynn@colorado.edu), by the application deadline (see 鈥淒eadlines鈥 section). The following degrees are eligible:
  • Will have successfully completed or be actively enrolled in听at least one Jewish Studies course by the end of the听semester during which applying for the scholarship. The course(s) must be listed as either听JWST听or听HEBR听to count.
    • Students who successfully completed a JWST or HEBR course in a previous semester are eligible to apply.
    • For those applicants enrolled in their first Jewish Studies course during the time of their application, the Jewish Studies鈥 scholarship committee will consult with the course instructor to ensure that the course will be completed by the applicant at the highest level and quality of work.
  • Recipient will have the highest GPA in the pool of applicants.
  • In the event of a tie, Jewish Studies will request letters of recommendation from the eligible students鈥 JWST or HEBR course instructors.

Application:

Applications should be submitted through in Buff Portal听by the deadline听and include the following information:

  • Class standing, including number of credit hours completed at CU total
  • Number of credit hours enrolled in for the current听semester
  • Declared Major(s)/Minor(s)
  • Jewish Studies course(s) completed or will have completed by the current semester
  • Current GPA
  • Interest in pursuing a Major or Minor in Jewish Studies

Deadlines:

  • Applicants听must declare a Jewish Studies Major or Minor by the scholarship deadline. Applicants who declare after the deadline will not be considered eligible.
  • Applicants must submit their application through 黑料社区网's Scholarship Application by the deadline. Applicants who turn in their application after the deadline will not be considered eligible.
  • No late submissions will be accepted.

Receiving the Award:

  • The recipient of the Jewish Studies Freshman and Sophomore听Scholarship will be announced shortly after the application deadline. The student will be recognized at the Jewish Studies Graduation Ceremony.
  • The Program in Jewish Studies will process the paperwork to apply the student鈥檚 scholarship to their tuition. If the student does not enroll at 黑料社区网 for the subsequent semester,听the scholarship will not be awarded.

Applying for Jewish Studies Scholarships through 黑料社区网's Scholarship Application

  • You can access the Scholarship听Application through the Buff Portal by selecting "Scholarships" under the Finances tab.
  • In the Scholarship Application, please search for the name of the Jewish Studies scholarship you wish to apply for.
  • Students applying for Jewish Studies scholarships are听required to submit the General Scholarship Application in order to be eligible for all other university scholarships as well.
  • Please pay attention to specific scholarship deadlines and request any recommendation letters you may need far in advance.
