Adding (or removing) an Engineering Minor

The process outlined below may be used to add (or remove) minors offered by the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS).

Note that some engineering minors are open to all students on campus; others are restricted to current CEAS students. 听Make sure to check the minor requirements before proceeding.

Log into听Buff Portal Advising and click on the听Meet with a Different Advisor tile. 听Follow the prompts for your desired minor (for more help, see below for a step-by-step guide).听

Process for adding a minor within the CEAS:

  1. First, gather information about the minor(s) you are considering:
    • Review the information on the minor's website (linked below) and run a 鈥渨hat-if鈥 degree audit for the minor, to learn more about admission requirements/prerequisites, minor requirements, and how your current credits would apply.
    • If you have questions, reach out to the minor program:
      • Log into听Buff Portal Advising and click on the听Meet with a Different Advisor tile to see if there is meeting availability for your desired minor (for more help, see below for a step-by-step guide).听
      • Or, reach out to the contact listed on the minor's website by email.

  2. Prior to declaring a minor, make sure you meet all admission requirements. 听These may include major restrictions, prerequisite courses, and/or GPA requirements. 听If you do not meet the admission requirements for the minor, your request will be denied.

  3. If you are ready to declare a minor after completing the steps above, fill out the appropriate form (linked below).

Important notes:

  • It is your responsibility to know the requirements for your minor(s), to ensure that your degree audit shows all minor requirements completed before graduation, and to reach out to the minor program with any questions.
  • If you declare a minor and later decide to graduate without completing it, you should drop the minor before applying for graduation. 听You cannot graduate and then return to complete a minor later.
  • Any exceptions made to degree requirements for your major will not automatically carry over to your minor(s), and will need to be reevaluated.

Instructions for Buff Portal Advising

that demonstrates the process, or follow the written steps below.

  1. Log in to Buff Portal Advising.
  2. Navigate to the Student Services section and click on the Meet with a Different Advisor tile.
  3. Select the appropriate option.
  4. Select the college, program, or school of interest to narrow the majors or minors listed. This step is optional with ALL as the default setting.
  5. Choose the Major or Minor of interest.
  6. Select Schedule an Advisor Appointment Now!听to see meeting availability, or follow the instructions to add the minor directly.
