Temporary Faculty and Lecturers
Each semester, the Department of Electrical, ComputerÌýand Energy Engineering seeks lecturers to teach a variety of courses to our students. These teaching roles are filled on an as-needed basis each semester.Ìý
The title of lecturer is given to individuals who teach on a course-by-course basis. For graduate-level courses, candidates must hold a graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a related field. For undergraduate-level courses, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. For all courses, prior experience as a course instructor is strongly preferred for any interested applicants.
Lecturer Compensation (effective 1/1/25)
- ECEE courses - $13,250 per course, for a standard 3 or 4 credit course. This amount will be prorated for courses that are less than 3 credits.Ìý
- ​Professional Master’s courses - $18,650 per course, for a standard 3 or 4 credit course. This amount will be prorated for courses that are less than 3 credits.
Exception(s) to the rates listed above:
- ECEN 5930: Industry Internship - $6,216.66 per course.Ìý This course is online, with a much smaller teaching workload that the typical 3-credit course requirement.

MS-EE on CourseraÌýStudent Jobs
The Office of Digital Education in the College of Engineering and Applied Science seeks diligent and hardworking graduate students to help support online electrical and engineering management courses on the Coursera platform for the Master of Electrical Engineering (MS-EE) and the Master of Engineering Management (ME-EM) degrees. The successful applicants will be working on online master’s degree programs at the intersection of engineering, technology,Ìýand business.
The 2024-2025ÌýCourse Facilitator Cohort hires will involve a mandatory onboarding session in April, prior to the Coursera Summer 1 session. Attendance at bi-weekly team meetings and monthly workshops are required. Candidates are expected to at least continue their service into the fall and spring sessions. Stipends will be awarded for successful completion of training and continuation of role into fall and spring terms.
We seek 10-12 qualified applicants. Hours are flexible. Participation in meetings and workshops required. These positions are 10 hours per week, payÌýbegins at $25 per hour, and up to three $1000 stipends over the academic year. Possibility for extra hours ofÌýwork is available.
We also seek a Cohort Intern (Lead Course Facilitator)Ìýto provide mentorship and leadership to the team of 10-12 course facilitators. This role interfaces regularly with Coursera and department team members. We are seeking 1 qualified applicant to fill this position. Hours are flexible. Participation in meetings and workshops required. This position is 10 hoursÌýperÌýweek, pay begins at $28 per hour, and up to three $1000 stipends over the academic year. Possibility for extra hours if work is available.
Cohort InternÌý(Lead Course Facilitator)
- First point of contact for all course facilitators when they need assistance
- Onboard new course facilitators
- Monitor Salesforce and ensuring that tickets are managed and resolved
- Send out announcement messages, reminders, and instructions to course facilitators; as well as track resolutions
- Drop in on course facilitators’ office to ensure support of the course
- Send out feedback forms and make sure they’re completed before the end of the session. Monitor and follow up with the Course facilitator and Instructor regarding any major feedback
- Help course facilitators with auto-grader issues
Learning Assistant MS-EE Course Facilitator
- Regularly monitor Salesforce and respond to them in a timely manner
- Monitor the private(for-credit) session discussion forums, feedback, and ratings
- Hold regular online office hours
- Complete the peer reviews at the end of the session
- Regular review of flagged course items, flagged exam proctoring, student support questions, and other course maintenance tasks
- Responsible communication and escalation of student issues to a course facilitator supervisor of record and other department stakeholders
- Edit and update the course content on Coursera with instructor's consent and approval

Required Skills
- Subject matter expertise in assigned courses
- Strong time management and organization skills and the ability to work independently
- Strong English written and verbal skills, especially over email
- An enthusiasm for learning new systems, both technical and non-technical
- Ability to solve problems independently and creatively
- Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, politicalÌýand geographical differences with ability to work well with faculty, staffÌýand students from around the world
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with the Coursera platform
- A background in teaching and learning, online educationÌýand/or engineering
- Familiarity with software that may include web-based website creation/maintenance, video/image editingÌýand cloud-based documents/spreadsheets
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. Python, Perl, PHP, Javascript) and/or markup languages (i.e. XML)
- Successful completion of one or more of the related ECEE courses
MS-EE on CourseraÌýHourly Pay Rates
- Cohort Intern (Lead Course Facilitator): Begins at $28 per hour + potential three $1,000 stipends over the course of the academic year
- Course Facilitator: Begins at $25Ìýper hour + potential three $1,000 stipends over the course of the academic year
- Adjunct Instructor: Ìý$29-$30/hr + $1,000 per term (fall, spring, summer), paid as a salary, dependent on experience and course load.
Extra hours may be available depending on program needs.
