Professor Ajume Wingo is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the ����������, where he specializes in political philosophy, ethics, and leadership. Originally from Cameroon, Professor Wingo earned his BA from the University of California-Berkeley and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His scholarship examines how civic trust, public art, and leadership practices shape democracies—particularly in Africa and other emerging contexts. Professor Wingo is the author of Veil Politics in Liberal Democratic States (Cambridge University Press), a work that explores the delicate balance between cultural identity and individual rights in multicultural societies. He is widely recognized for his engaging approach to political theory, blending real-world experiences with philosophical insights on leadership, governance, and civic participation. His teaching and research have earned him accolades for advancing discussions on how communities can develop shared civic values in increasingly diverse societies. He is presently working on a book manuscript entitled “In the Shade of Power: The Paths to Power for the Powerless” and on a paper on a new political phenomenon he christened “Apatherianism,” an attitude that treats government as an external force that is irrelevant to the fundamental experience of being human.
