BFA September 7, 2023 Assembly Meeting
The Boulder Faculty Assembly held their first meeting of the academic year via Zoom on Thursday, September 7. BFA Chair Shelly Miller welcomed new and returning BFA representatives as well as Assembly Liaisons from across campus. Agenda items from the meeting included:
- Review of Provost Moore by the BFA Administrator Appraisal Committee (AAPC) Ìý– In fall 2022 the BFA Administrator Appraisal Committee, chaired by Fernando Rosario-Ortiz updated the committee charge and implemented a new appraisal review process. In spring 2023, Provost Russell Moore agreed to be the first administrator to be reviewed. The committee met with both the BFA Executive Committee and Provost Moore in May to reviewÌýand discuss the results, and agreed to update Assembly members at the first meeting of the AY23-24 year. Rosario-Ortiz went over the new process as well as the results with representatives. The committee will collect feedback this fall, and plans to work on creating guidelines that can be used in colleges and schools. The BFA, along with chair Rosario-Ortiz would like to thank committee members: Tim Kuhn, Communication; Susan Jurrow, Education; Deborah Cantrell, CU Law along with Office of Data Analytics members Rob Stubbs, and Fran Costa for all their hard work in revitalizing the committee and the process.
- BFA-R-1-083023 Campus Libraries Licensing Priorities ResolutionÌý- Campus Libraries and the BFA Executive Committee introduced a resolution outlining campus priorities to help negotiate licensing agreements. Representatives are asked to share the resolution with their constituents and send all questions and feedback to: bfa@colorado.edu. The resolution is scheduled for a vote at the October 5, 2023 Assembly meeting.
- ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø Campus Building Safety Policy - A new campus policy is in final stages. The Boulder campus has not had a consistent approach to building safety protocol previously and the new policy along with a building access control committee will be implemented at the end of September. AVC of Facilities Management, Brian Lindoerfer, along with Director of Events/Emergency Management Garry DeJong spoke to Assembly members about the policy, letting them know it is currently scheduled to go into effect on Sunday, September 24, 2023. - August Faculty Contract Pay Update - Chief People Officer Robyn Fergus spoke to representatives regarding an August calendar issue that resulted in smaller paychecks for many faculty. HR is offering to help individuals impacted by the calendar shift by requesting an advance payment option for September. Representatives are asked to let their colleagues know to contact their unit’s HR liaison if they need assistance due to this. The BFA will be coordinating with campus HR going forward to improve communication between groups.
- Approval of the Boulder Faculty Senate Constitution - Faculty will be voting to approve new constitution for the Boulder faculty senate. Each campus is required to have a faculty senate constitution per Regent Law and the CU system faculty constitution, but Boulder has been out of compliance for many years. Last spring Assembly members approved sending the proposed constitution toÌýthe faculty senate for approval this fall. All eligible faculty will receive an e-memo at the beginning of October that will have a link to a Qualtrics where they can vote. - Fall 2023 Internal BFA Elections -Ìý Internal elections concluded on Thursday night following the Assembly meeting.ÌýÌýExternal elections are now open to all eligible campus faculty, including BFA representatives. BFA Secretary Vicki Grove sent an e-memo to all eligible campus faculty with the External Call for Nominations.
