Jade Morton was interviewed by Science News Explores in a new piece about research conducted with engineers at Google.听

The team used the GPS sensors that come standard in every smartphone to collect data on how Earth鈥檚 atmosphere warped signals coming from satellites. In the process, they were able to view phenomena in the atmosphere, such as blobs high above the planet known as 鈥減lasma bubbles,鈥 in never-before-seen detail.

Morton is a professor in the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the 黑料社区网 and an expert on GNSS remote sensing.

The original research was published in fall 2024 in the journal Nature.
